Log Files that are safe to delete;

  • WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1\*.log
  • C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\content\<folder>\<folder name that is all digits>

Problem:

The file sqla000.tmp balloons to fill the drive it is on for unknown reason.

Location: C:\Windows\Temp\
File: sqla0000.tmp

Solution:

Restarting the Symantec Embedded Database service will shrink the file size tremendously.

Problem:
The file sem5.log balloons to massive proportions

Location: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\db\

File: sem5.log

Solution:


  1. Stop the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and Symantec Embedded Database Service.
  2. Rename / Delete the current sem5.log file
  3. Open a command prompt
  4. In the Command Prompt type: "CD C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\ASA\win32\" and press Enter this will change directories to the folder containing dbsrv11.exe.
  5. To force the recreation of sem5.log: Type: "dbsrv11 -f "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\db\sem5.db" and press Enter
  6. Start the Symantec Embedded Database Service and Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service.

Problem:

hiberfil.sys file is massive.

Solution:

run the following command from command prompt to disable hibernation mode: powercfg -h off
